Building Digital Equity: The Impact of the “Computer of Change” Campaign in Promoting Knowledge in Cambodia

by Pich Reangsey LEATH | 17th Jan, 2026

As digitalization continues to shape every aspect of our lives, it is essential that Cambodian students have access to digital devices—especially computers—from an early stage of their development. By repurposing used computers from corporate partners and various organizations, we are able to gradually bridge the digital gap in Cambodia.

In the context of rapid technological advancement, digital literacy has become a foundational pillar for student development. However, the lack of digital devices in rural areas remains a persistent challenge requiring sustainable and collaborative solutions. To address this strategically, the "Computer of Change" campaign—an initiative by Tech For Kids Academy—has emerged as a powerful force in transforming surplus resources into equitable educational opportunities.

Since its launch in 2021 under the theme "Old to You, New to Me," the campaign has achieved significant milestones, delivering a total of 306 computers to schools across 12 provinces. In Round 3, held on January 14, 2026, 78 computers were delivered through the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to 9 target schools in 6 provinces: Banteay Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Pursat, and Takeo.

These actions are more than just providing hardware; they address the shortage of learning tools in remote institutions—a primary obstacle in developing Cambodia’s human capital for the digital era.

The profound impact of this campaign stems from the collaboration and full support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS Cambodia). The presence of Mr. Sok Tha, Director of the Department of Digital Transformation, at the handover ceremony confirms that "Computer of Change" is not merely a private charity project, but a vital component aligned with the National Digital Education Strategic Plan. This recognition and support enable the campaign to scale and create a systemic positive impact on communities nationwide.

Reflecting on the deep value and mission of this initiative, Mr. Sok Steven, Focal Person of the campaign, emphasized the importance of preparing these devices:

"As digitalization continues to shape every aspect of our lives, it is essential that Cambodian students have access to digital devices—especially computers—from an early stage of their development. By repurposing used computers from corporate partners and various organizations, we are able to gradually bridge the digital gap in Cambodia."

He added that these are not just used computers. Through the dedication of volunteers, each device is carefully refurbished and equipped with diverse educational resources to become a powerful learning tool. The ultimate goal of Tech For Kids is to empower Cambodian youth to evolve from being mere users to becoming "Creators" with the full capacity to learn and innovate with confidence.

The success achieved thus far is the fruit of generosity and cooperation from all stakeholders. We express our deepest gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport for their collaboration and support, as well as our Round 3 sponsors: Manulife Cambodia and the Arbitration Council Foundation.

We particularly appreciate and thank the entire Computer of Change team and volunteers. Without your sacrifice of heart, soul, and time, this meaningful achievement—which has changed the lives of thousands of students across the country—could not have been possible.

This spirit of solidarity is the driving force behind Tech For Kids Academy’s firm commitment to expanding this mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. We firmly believe that building digital equity is not the sole duty of any individual or institution, but a collective responsibility of society to ensure that every Cambodian child has the opportunity to receive an equitable and inclusive education.

In this spirit, the campaign continues to welcome donations of functional desktops or laptops from companies and individuals. Every contribution is a valuable investment in the future of Cambodian children. We stand ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to transform surplus resources into a catalyst for knowledge and meaningful change for generations of Cambodian youth.
